Professional
Hi, I’m Dennis Piccioni, a software engineer living in Round Rock, near Austin, Texas. I have been developing software since 1993. I work for Data Access Worldwide on the Visual DataFlex development team. I really enjoy my work, I am lucky enough to do something I enjoy for a living and I know it. To me, this is a big part of being successful. I would hate getting up each day to drag off to a job I didn’t like; I don’t think that would work for me.
Working at a smaller company like DAW allows me to do a little of everything. I do a lot of technical writing, from product documentation to white papers to KBase articles. I actually enjoy this, mostly because I see the benefit of improving our doc and positive feedback from our customers regarding this. I’ve also been on the other end of this when learning other products and know how tough it is trying to learn to use a poorly documented product.
Another part of my job is active product development. I have written all the VDF migration wizards since the first rev of Visual DataFlex (rev 4.0) all the way to the just released VDF 15.0.
I write and maintain numerous applications that we use in-house, as well as some available to our customers. The DAW Technical Knowledge Base (KBase) was the first live public VDF web application ever. Later I developed BugTracker, which we use for VDF bug and suggestion management.
Other aspects of my work involve support, mostly of developers using our products to develop software, and product testing.

Personal
I love sports (playing more than watching), especially racquetball and basketball. I play racquetball 2 – 3 times a week. I don’t particularly enjoy working on our house and yard, but I do enjoy the results.
